The Michael Jackson biopic "Michael," which has grossed $277 million at the global box office to date, had plans for a sequel even before its release. Adam Fogelson, Chairman of the Motion Picture Group at Lionsgate, recently revealed in an interview on "The Town" podcast, hosted by renowned entertainment journalist Matt Belloni, that producer Graham King hopes to begin filming the sequel this year.

During the program, Belloni also pressed Fogelson on rumors that director Antoine Fuqua might not return for the second installment, with Graham King potentially taking over directing duties. Fogelson acknowledged that this is indeed a possibility, adding that more news regarding the sequel will be announced in the coming weeks.
King directly stepping into the director's chair for the sequel would be a logical progression, given that he handled the extensive reshoots and pickup photography for the first film in Fuqua's stead. If the sequel is fast-tracked for production this year, Fuqua's chances of returning are indeed slim. This is partly due to rumors that he had disagreements with the Jackson family, and partly because he is currently focused on directing Netflix's upcoming Denzel Washington-led biographical film about the Carthaginian military leader Hannibal Barca, which would likely leave him no time for "Michael" Part Two.
